Brief
Plan the interior of a house-extension to provide kitchen, dining area and living room. The owners have an extensive '50s memorabilia collection to display. They want open plan living to create space for themselves and to entertain. They own two dogs, so durable materials are essential.
Solution
A contemporary space with a '50s twist; shades of 'Happy Days' American diner. An ice cream colour palette - buttermilk, strawberry and chocolate. Hard-wearing travertine stone flooring. Curved edges are very '50s - round sink, curved cooker hood, radiused doors on units meeting the iconic curves of the Smeg fridge. Bespoke diner-style seating. Wall-mounted jukebox. Plenty of hanging space for memorabilia. '50s echoes in sofas and curtains. Client 'must haves' include plasma TV, bar, jukebox, amusement arcade machine and a wine cooler as well as the Smeg. Now, everything is incorporated seamlessly into the space, just as they had imagined.
